How often do you update this theme? My developer is doing some update to my website and informed me that he cant as the Gwangi Theme is not compatible with latest wordpress 5.4.1
It seem you haven’t done any update in the last one yearMay 1, 2020 at 21:26 #12290@themosaurusrex- 0 Topics

Hi @lanet99nakuru,
Gwangi has been updated on April 9, 2020 (v 2.2.3) and to our knowledge, it supports WordPress 5.4.1.
Please make sure that you have the latest version installed.
To update your theme, you can download and install the Envato Market plugin (https://envato.com/market-plugin/) on your WordPress site.
Once the plugin is installed and activated, go to “Envato Market” in your admin menu and follow the instructions under “Activate Envato API Connection”.
When this is done, you will see your purchased themes under the “Themes” tab and you should be able to update your theme from there by clicking the “Update available” button.
Regards

Thanks for that Oliver,
The developer is upgrading to the (v 2.2.3) and every time it reverts to the older one. Also the website is on the Gwangi Child Theme… Which is the latest version? What is the difference to website performance if one uses the Child and the main?May 7, 2020 at 09:24 #12501@themosaurusrex- 0 Topics

If your theme keeps reverting to an older version, there is an issue with your setup, file system or your database that needs to be addressed. Unfortunately, this is not related with the use of our theme. In consequence, I won’t be able to help you further with this.
To my knowledge, there are no performance benefits in using a WordPress child theme over a parent theme. However, a child theme gives you the advantage to let you write custom PHP code the right way, preventing future theme updates to erase this code.
The latest version of our child theme is 1.2.

Hi @lanet99nakuru,
- First, you should really consider ask you developer to migrate your custom code to your database and use PHP Code Snippet unless multiple templates have been overridden. This plugin will allow you to add code without editing directly your (child) theme. For more, please read the following post:
https://doc.themosaurus.com/adding-custom-php-without-changing-your-child-theme/ - Then, you can consider using only the parent theme and keep it up-to-date to benefit from new features and bug fixes. Please make sure back up your database before or at least export your theme options to ease the migration. For more, please also read this:
https://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-import-export-wordpress-theme-customizer-settings/
Please bear in mind that migrating themes at this point will require some extra work !
In any case, it is always good practice and recommended to keep your parent theme up-to-date. Most of the code contained in your parent is being used by your child theme and updating it will make your website stable, safer and future-proof for the reasons mentioned above.
