Hello again,
If I modify a page with the Gwangi template “Search template”, an issue occurs front-end: the page load non-stop.
On my test website, take a look on Trouvez l’amour > Membres > Recherche avancée.
The page content is only a title and a shortcode: [bps_form id=205] .
I don’t know wher I am wrong, I searched the forum, but found no solution…
Could you help me… again…?
Cheers,
Gilles

Hi @gillesderon,
I’m not sure that “Search Template” is the best fit for BP Profile Search and the directory page.
On our demo, we use the “Sidebar right template” with the
[bps_directory]
inside the content and we’ve overridden the Sidebar, and finally placed a BP Profile search form widget in it. If you reproduce this setup, you will have a page similar to our demo (please see attachment). The best way to achieve this is to override the Sidebar 2 widget area with Easy Custom Sidebars. Maybe you already have created a widgetized page by following the steps described in the following post:
If you have already done so, the same process will apply. First, go to your dashboard and please navigate to “Appearance > Theme Sidebars”.
Then, you will need to create new widget area. Please click the create a new sidebar link, give the widget area a name, and click the “Create Sidebar” button. Then select the widget area to replace, under “Sidebar Properties”. In your case, we recommended “BuddyPress” or “Members Directory”.Doing so, the new widget area will be available in your Customizer. Furthermore, the widgets moved to your new widget area will only be displayed when your members directory page will be shown.
After doing this, you can follow this tutorial:
It will show you how to change the page layout and insert the search form to your sidebar.
Hope this will help 🙂

Hi @themosaurusrex,
Yes, this was helpfull, even if I do not use Easy Custom Sidebars. I change the template, use the sidebar 2 and put my widget in it and all seems to work fine.
My mistake was simply using the wrong template.
But what is the purpose of the Search Template? Is it a general search on the entire website?

Hi @gillesderon,
I’m surprised to read that you’re not using Easy Custom Sidebars. I really recommend this plugin as it providing a very useful feature: it’s allowing you to store different widgets in the same widget area from a page to another.
If I’m not mistaken, using the BP widgets in the Sidebar 2 widget area will display those across all pages of your website. Maybe it’s not what you’re looking for, or maybe it is. ?
However, with Easy Custom Sidebars, you could display different widgets in Sidebar 2 for the posts pages for instance.Yes, the purpose of the Search Template is to display a form to let users search through posts and other content types. (Please see attachments.)
It’s not used very often but it can be quite handy for forum-heavy websites.Best,
