    Hi,

Actually, it depends on the needs of your project.

The starter child theme is best used if you’re planning on doing major changes using custom PHP, JS or CSS code. The following post might interest you:

Adding Custom PHP in Your Child Theme

However, maybe you wish to use the parent theme or one of the provided child theme (Youth, Spiritual, Sensual or Elite). You can benefit from a different style kit but it’s not recommended to make your code changes in its files. There are better ways to customize your child theme without changing its code. The following posts explain this topic in more details:

Adding Custom PHP Without Changing Your Child Theme

    Adding Custom CSS

Both ways have advantages. The big thing to remember here is that once you’ve started to create your website one way, it will require more work to switch other way as all customizations made through the Customizer (layouts, colors, fonts, etc.) are persisted in your database in relation with the selected theme. By switching from a theme to another, you will need to start your customization from scratch.

So, it’s better to choose your preferred way and stick to it. ?

    Hi Lamboknababan,

Yes, you will be capable of changing the styles simply by activating the elite child theme. In this case, you might need to tinker a bit your already set Grimlock section widgets (if you’re using them). For instance, you might need to modify their background colors from pink to green or dark grey.

Your database will remain unchanged. So, you won’t loose any member in the process of switching theme.

However, as mentioned before, you will need to remake your Customizer modifications (colors, layouts, typography, etc.) as every one of them is persisted in relation with your theme name in your database.

    Regards
