Hi
The problem is that whenever someone registers they don’t receive the activation email; If you go to Users > Manage Signups, you will see that such users have Email Sent value changed to 1 +, I have tried manually resending the activation email and the count goes to 2 but I don’t receive a such activation email. For email management I am using WP SMPT plugin and the test email is fine.
I know this is a known issue since I’ve seen other posts from here and I also know you can’t help because it’s a buddypress issue, but have you tried using this theme setup with another alternative to Buddypress? another plugin that could do the same and but remain the theme as it was?
Please, the buddypress forums are from 10+ years ago, and no one answers anything, the plugin they suggest as a “fix” is causing issues on the theme probably because they were created 10 years ago and the last update about 7 years ago. So I have to deactivate them otherwise the site goes off (maintenance mode) or something.
I have read about ContactForm7 but what might be the implications of switching to that and should I delete buddypress afterwards? It’s driving me crazy and I would like to invite members of the community and continue customizing the website.

I’ve found the solution!!
The problem has to do with how BuddyPress sends emails. Basically, they use their own sending method, rather than using the built-in wp_mail function. Plugins like WP SMTP hook into the wp_mail function to intercept emails from plugins and WordPress itself. Since BuddyPress doesn’t do it that way, the email never makes it to SMTP plugins. It essentially sidesteps us to go its own way.
There are mostly 2 solutions on the internet which are:
1) Install a plugin to deploy code snippets
2) create a file called bp_custom.php
and then apply the code they normally suggest, however, these solutions did not fix the issueyou need to install a plugin called plugin BP Disable Activation Reloaded 1.2.1 and then click on the fix button.
If you have the same problem I hope this fixes the issue!

Hi Andres,
Thank you for bring this issue to our attention. This issue can occur when your activation or registration email is either not send by your server -for instance, when mailing services are incorrectly set- or not received by your registering user because of his mail client spam filter.
Thank you for sharing the solution with us. I’m sure it will help other users facing the same issue. By doing this, you’re making a great contribution to this forum, and we thank you very much for that! #SharingIsCaring 💪🏻
