How do I set to search function for member to look for someone of preference sex. For example, if the male member signs up and is looking for a female, he should see all women members after log in. I noticed that male members still can see male members after log in. How to fix this?

Unfortunately, this feature is not available with BuddyPress and BP Profile Search. However, we recently developed a plugin that might suit your needs: MatchPress.
MatchPress adds powerful matching features to BuddyPress. Member likes, skips, super likes, conditional private messaging and much more to come!
We will soon create a new add-on for this plugin to make the compatibility to BP Profile Search. This add-on will allow you to save the profile preferences and apply them on the directory. This way, your users will only see the members that match their preferences.

Thank you for your response. I am surprised that BuddyPress nor BP Profile Search, after all the years, do not have the option to force members to search/view the OPPOSITE gender (male and female). I am not comfortable launching my Gwangi dating theme that allows members to view BOTH genders in their search at this time.
I do need this fixed asap. Give me the estimated time when the plugin/fix may be ready?
Also to consider with the changing world, we also consider homosexuality/transgender as gender preference in search as well.

Indeed, it is strange that no real solution exists. We have searched for a long time and we have investigated on several possibilities. However, we did not find a perfect way to do it smoothly. For this reason, we decided to create this solution ourselves.
Be sure we’re currently working on integrating BP Profile Search with MatchPress through an add-on. However, we can’t really set a release date because we need to do several tests to make sure everything works properly and is fully compatible with BuddyPress behavior. Just to have an idea, we think we could release it in a month. But like I said, it’s very relative and we can’t commit to that time frame in any way.
Be aware that with this add-on, you’ll be able to use all genders, even use age, location or any other fields you might have on the profile. 🙂

So that MatchPress is not ready to use until you add BP Profile Search with it that will allow members to only see a directory of profiles with the opposite sex? Will the search also work for homosexuality (ie. man looking for man, woman looking for woman, transgenders, etc. etc.).

Note that MatchPress is ready to be used. MatchPress turns the directory into a swipable view with like, superlike and skip functions. However, the feature you’re looking for (filter the users) is not available yet.
Indeed, each member will be able to set their preferences in their profile with this add-on. Ex: Man searching a man, woman searching woman, Woman searching men, man searching transgender, etc.
