One problem is that the dashboard looks different from when I’m editing it in the customizer vs when it’s live. As you can see from the pictures the colors and layout are different. You can also see that I removed some widgets in the customizer on the left but they are still on the page, like the video widget.
Another is that no matter what plugin I attempt to use to make the site private or hide buddypress the dashboard and all of its widgets stay open to logged out users. It seems impossible to hide the dashboard.

I had the same problem initially, maybe that page is created with elementor?
if so, you should create a new default dashboard page to use the widgets
I think I figured it out. It was set to the wrong “template”
