Hi,
Some people are experiencing strange issues when trying to login or resetting their password. They are getting a message that their email is already registered at the website, when this is not the case and they just registered.
In a different theme I’m working on they are warning me that when we force people to use the theme template, it can become possible, due to safety settings on some browsers or configurations, that an infinite loop is created.
This loop can be avoided when people are able to use the WordPress login, and not the theme form login. Is there a way to add an option into the Login form, that when people are experiencing difficulty login in, that they can use the WordPress login instead? In other words, can we add an extra link to the standard WordPress login environment?
Thx

Hi René,
if I’m not mistaken, you have a multisite. My best guess might be that a member is logged in the other site and that’s creating an issue. It might be related to a misconfiguration of the multisite.
At this point, it is very difficult to tell what this issue is. Moreover, your explanation is confusing. 🤔
I really suggest you to explain us step by step how a user face this issue. Don’t hesitate to share screenshots, please.
We’re waiting for your feedback.

Hi,
No we didn’t went for a multisite. We are using subdomains on their own installations.
A screenshot wouldn’t really explain anything. It’s simple.
Some people try to register, but when they do, a message is displayed that they already have an account.
But they didn’t had an account before.
At this moment an account is created in the system.
The user thinks they already have an account so they try to login, change the password but that doesn’t work.
So basically the problem is that some people are getting a message while registering that their email address is already registered while it was not registered on the website.
How could this be possible?

Hi René,
Thank you for your feedback. I know understand better.
Please note that our theme uses the default login and register form managed by WordPress (and buddyPress). Moreover, we can’t reproduce this issue on our end. I’m afraid we have no clue on how to solve this. 🤷🏻♀️
We made some research. Here are the topics that seems to answer to a same concern:
- How to work around “that email address has already been used” error?
- Error: email address already in use
The second topic is about a different plugin, but it seems this issue might be due to a conflict. Could you deactivate all plugins that have not been installed with your theme during its setup and all existing custom PHP code snippets please? And then, could you confirm me that the issue is still persisting please?
You are now well aware of this: Please also make sure that you have the latest theme version and that all recommended plugins are up-to-date. Finally, you could also consider clearing all activated caching system as well as your browser cache before investigating any further. If you want to read more on what browser cache is and how to clear it, here is an article that might help you: How to Clear Internet Cache in Every Major Browser.
Concerning the “Forgot password” link, can you please tell me if they get an error or if they doesn’t receive the emails?
Regards,

Thx. I tried the User Activation Key plugin but that didn’t work. Seems to be too old.
The person does receive the email, but when they fill in their password the error message is shown that the password is incorrect.

Hi René,
Thank you for this specification. Unfortunately, we have no clue on how to fix this as it seems to be related to WordPress itself. Note that our theme does not make any changes to emails managed by WordPress or BuddyPress, netherless the password reset feature. Maybe these topics will help you to solve your issue as they seem to answer to a related concern:
As you know the installation, setting or debugging of third party plugins isn’t part of the support we will provide. To go further, we advise that you hire a freelancer to do it for you. If you’re on a tight budget, we recommend you to require the services from Envato Studio freelancers (https://studio.envato.com/explore/websites-programming). This web platform gives you access to developers who have already experience with theme customizations, and for very competitive prices.
We’re sorry that we can’t help you fix this.
Thank you for your understanding.
