I’m not 100% sure about this, but I strongly have the feeling that if people upload a profile picture on a mobile phone, that the image will not come out sharp. On desktop there is no issue, but for some reason on a mobile phone the result is not so good. Am I imagining things or could this be true? How could I change this?

Unfortunately, we have no clue. 🤷🏻♀️ We made some tests but we cannot reproduce this issue.
Maybe there is a limitation we don’t know of. In that case, we invite you to report this issue on the BuddyPress support forums as the profile images are managed by this plugin: buddypress.org/support

Wait, I’ve tried it again. And I can see a clear difference in sharpness. Why don’t you try it yourself with the attached image.

You’re right. Unfortunately, it depends of multiple factors. The quality of this picture can be related to your mobile, the browser, BuddyPress or WordPress itself.
As I told you, we invite you to report this issue on the BuddyPress support forums as the profile images are managed by this plugin: buddypress.org/support. They will be more suited to find out from where this issue is coming from and how you can solve this.
