Hello.
What is the Dashboard supposed to show? Please see the attached two snapshots. When logged in as my admin account I get the equivalent of one of the emails. When logged in as my subscriber test account, I get Page Not Found.
1.) How can I fix the link for the subscribers?
2.) What is the Dashboard supposed to go to?
3.) How can I further customize the look of the emails and what the dashboard displays? I went through the options to customize the emails through the backend, but the options are extremely limited. For example, I’d like to be able to put a logo or banner in the header. I’d like to be able to add more options where the “Unsubscribe” text is. Etc.
4. Alternately, I have a Mailchimp account. Is it possible to use Mailchimp to modify the look of and send out the Buddypress emails instead?

The Dashboard link is not supposed to open a BuddyPress email template. It looks like the wrong link was imported into your primary menu.
To fix this, go to Appearance > Menus and open your primary menu. Then, delete the faulty menu item and add the Dashboard page instead from the “Pages” box on the left (see attached screenshot).As for customizing the emails, please take a look at this article of the BuddyPress documentation : https://codex.buddypress.org/emails/
I do not think however that it is possible to use Mailchimp to handle the BuddyPress emails.Hope this helps!
