It seems the search form isn’t a Profile search form. Can you confirm me you installed BP Profile Search plugin?
Thank to this plugin, you’ll be able to create a form in Dashboard > Users > Profile Search and add a new form. Each form will have a shortcode that you’ll have to use to display the form.
