I tried to post my question on their support forum but they directed me to upgrade to a plus account first. This will cost me US$297 which is more than I am prepared to pay to have my problem looked into.
This is something that other users should be made aware of before deciding to install Paid Memberships Pro.

By the way, I chose to set the “only run on site front end” option because of your general recommendation in your “adding-custom-php-without-changing-your-child-theme” article.

I deactivated all plugins except for the ones present in the initial setup but the problem persisted. I also deactivated all code snippets (except the one which displays the extra profile fields on the members’ cards) but this did not fix the problem either. Could there be something wrong with the code snippet that I am using?

Apparently I wasn’t clear in my original query. I will try to clarify what I am wanting to achieve.
I am referring to two different pages – “Members’ Directory” (MD) page and “Member’s Profile” (MP) page.
The tooltip appears on the MD page but not on the MP page. I would like it to appear on both pages.Thanks.
But the tooltip text on the Members page now reads “Send Private Message” instead of “Send a private message to this user.”.
I tried your suggestion but still no tool tip is appearing when hovering over the “Send Private Message” icon on the Profile page.

I have now edited the field groups by adding, deleting and re-arranging fields and I now find that, for an unknown reason, the problem has disappeared.

Thanks for your reply. I followed your instructions but there is no “Buddypress” in the menu – only “Pages”, “Posts”, “Custom Links” and “Categories”. See attached screen shot.
Thanks, but I’m afraid it’s not that simple. You see, when I try to edit the “User – Logged Out” menu, the Register item is shown as having a custom link which has a Navigation Label (“Register”) but no URL is shown. Moreover, there is no “Register” page in the list of available pages to choose to navigate to.
By the way, I have the same problem with the “Log In” option in the “User – Logged Out” menu. That is, there is no “Log In” page in the list of available pages. Once again, the “Log In” item has a custom link which has no URL specified.
