Hi,
You should have a look to Woffice WordPress Theme, you can interact with your BuddyPress notifications when clicking on the bell icon without refreshing any page 😉
On the other hand, after upgrading to ubuntu 18 and php7.0 -> 7.2, it seems that my site is going faster 🙂

I was thinking about Buddypress’ features (groups & members directories, notifications…
For example, the ability to consult notifications and erase them without refreshing pages…

I found a solution : switch “Template Pack” to “Buddy Heritage” in Buddypress options.
I hope it won’t be a problem for the rest of the website…Regards,
